The video is now available for PIANC WA Chapter’s free online seminar on climate change adaptation for ports and maritime infrastructure and operations. Presented by PIANC’s Ron Cox, on 22 April 2020.
Topics included the implications for port planning and management, interpreting sea level projections and understanding their relevance and the potential impact on our industry. Discussions covered case studies and the use of high density concrete armour units for major breakwater upgrades, as well as the findings of relevant PIANC Task Groups and working groups.
Speaker Ron Cox is an Honorary Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Specialist Consultant at UNSW, Sydney. He is a longstanding member of PIANC and has over 45 years experience across many areas of water, environmental and coastal engineering.
Since 2009 Ron has lead the Australian Climate Change Adaptation Research Network for Settlements and Infrastructure. He provides advice on climate adaptation, flood and coastal policy to Federal, State and Local governments in Australia.
The video is the first in our new PIANC ANZ YouTube channel.
Congratulations to PIANC WA Chapter for organising this great event!
Reminder re WG178 Free Download
Climate change represents a significant risk to business, operations, safety and infrastructure – and hence to local, national and global economies. Port and waterway operators need to take urgent action to strengthen resilience and adapt. PIANC’s WG178 FREE TO ALL report “CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION FOR PORTS AND INLAND WATERWAYS” provides methodological support to the recent PIANC Declaration on Climate Change, enabling PIANC’s members and all our colleagues in the wider navigation infrastructure community to take timely action.
