Celebrating Women in Maritime Day

We continued our work on increasing diversity in PIANC by celebrating the inaugural International Day for Women in Maritime on Wed 18th May in Fremantle, WA. An inspiring panel of women shared their stories, experiences, and words of motivation from their careers in maritime.

  • Nicole Lockwood – Chairperson of Infrastructure WA
  • Kathryn Davies – Team Leader of Navigational Safety at the Department of Transport – Maritime
  • Carol Shannon -CEO of the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation

The panel event was followed by a relaxing networking event with a cruise on the Swan River, from 4-6pm starting and finishing at B-Shed Fremantle. All genders were welcome.

The day was a great success – with participants and organisers already looking forward to the next one!

PIANC worked with WISTA – (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) Australia on these successful sold-out events. Huge congratulations and thanks to organisers Nancy HaddadeenKerryn WooningsKendall Messer & Claire Treeby.

The event organisers are grateful for the generous support of cruise host Sealink, and sponsors Sealink, Hall & Wilcox, City of Cockburn, Australian Institute of Marine Surveyors, and KBR. Also a big call out to the WA Department of Transport – Maritime who kindly hosted the panel event.
