Welcome to Katrina Dodd
We were delighted to welcome Katrina Dodd to the PIANC A-NZ Board in June 2018, as one of two Board nominees by EA’s National Committee on Coastal and Ocean Engineering NCCOE. (The other nominee is A/Prof Ron Cox.)
The purpose of these two positions is to increase the opportunities for our membership to be involved and aware of the professional development opportunities that align both these organizations, and to foster a broader understanding of the work being undertaken nationally on issues such as the Blue Economy and Climate Change.
Katrina joined the Board because she believes in the quality products provided by PIANC for their members and wants to be involved in advocating for the membership to be more connected to these resources. She is currently working with Neil Lawson and others on the Board to further develop and update our member services.
About Katrina:
As a structural engineer, Katrina has over 18 years international experience in Ports and Terminal Design. She is a Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia (NER). Originally from the UK, Katrina obtained her degree and masters from The University of Oxford, completing this in 2001. Following 10 years in Canada, she moved to Australia in 2013. She completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course in 2016.
She has “been lucky enough” to experience a wide variety of projects through her career with a common thread of waters’ edge developments. Each project has their own unique set of puzzles to solve, which drives a passion for continuous learning and reiterates the interest for developing guidelines and resources through PIANC.
Katrina recently moved from her role as VP Operations, Transport & Logistics at Ausenco’s Perth offices to become Technical Director – Maritime at Royal HaskoningDHV in Sydney. This involved relocating the whole family; husband, children and dogs from the (relative) peace of Perth to the mayhem of Sydney. Fortunately they found a home near water.
Current PIANC Work
Katrina is currently part of PIANC’s WG200 – which is working on Recommendations for the Design and Assessment of Marine Single Point Mooring (SPM) or Multi-Point Mooring (MPM) Facilities. Although a few standards for the Oil and Gas industry exist, the aim of WG200 to is bring more awareness of other applications of these types of facilities including referencing some bulk loading facilities in Australia. The WG200 report which will describe a uniform set of design, analysis, and maintenance guidelines, will be very useful for SPM and MPM design and operations. Katrina is one of three PIANC A-NZ members of this working group. (The other two members are Kevin Sartipi and JJ Ryan). Technology is playing a significant role in improving the connectivity from Australia to previously Eurocentric working groups by using video and teleconference facilities.
NSW Needs You!
And as if that wasn’t enough, Katrina is part of the inception team for the NSW regional chapter of PIANC A-NZ which is currently recruiting across NSW for Committee Representatives.
