Welcome new PIANC NZ Chair

Welcome to Jonathan (Jono) Stewart as the new Chair of PIANC Aotearoa New Zealand, taking up the leadership role from the legendary Matt McKee.

Jono has served as Deputy Chair of the Chapter for the past two years, providing leadership to the committee and playing a key role in organising numerous successful PIANC events, helping to grow the organisation’s following across New Zealand.

He is an experienced civil engineer and project manager with more than 19 years’ experience delivering major design and construction projects across the ports, marine, and civil infrastructure sectors in both New Zealand and Canada.

His experience spans a wide range of ports and marine projects, including the design and construction management of wharves, container and bulk terminals, reclamations, dredging, shore power, heavy-duty pavements, bridges, and utilities. Jono brings a strong focus on safety, quality, and practical, deliverable outcomes, and is comfortable operating across all aspects of project management, from stakeholder engagement and risk management through to scheduling, budgeting, and contract administration.

With his solid engineering background, Jono brings a hands-on, analytical approach to unpacking complex challenges and finding smart, efficient solutions, not just at work, but also in his role as an active member within the PIANC community.

As Chair, Jono is looking forward to another exciting year for New Zealand’s ports and marine sector, with plenty of opportunities to connect, learn, and share knowledge across our industry, through PIANC events, technical discussions, site visits, and social and networking opportunities.

‘We’re here to help support everyone across the sector’ he says, ‘and continue building our PIANC NZ community on the strong foundations already in place.’
