PIANC ANZ’s regional chapters have recently hosted very successful networking events in Darwin and Perth, both on Wed 13 October.
Some 26 people working across consulting, contractors, port operators, infrastructure advisory and government were at the Darwin networking event at Smith Street Social in Darwin’s CBD.
“With large maritime projects underway and considerable investment in the pipeline for Darwin, the event was a perfect opportunity for people across the sector to discuss the substantial ongoing maritime projects, and share ideas on upcoming projects in the Top End,” organiser and local maritime engineer Harry Gibbs said.
“Darwin is seen as a real place of opportunity for ports and maritime,” Mr Gibbs said, “There’s a large volume of maritime projects coming up, and we want to see PIANC’s membership thrive during this time as these projects come to fruition.”
Three and a half thousand kms away in Perth, PIANC’s WA chapter had organised pizza at the University of Western Australia’s Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre(IOMRC) where they were hosting a Perth Students Industry Night – raising awareness of the ports and marine industry. Students were encouraged to drop by and chat to industry representatives over pizza.
Lead organiser Claire Treeby reported: “Another successful event in WA at the first ever Pizza with Industry Reps Student Night! Important discussions were had around career paths in marine fields, entering the work force after finishing a PHD, and just spreading the word about PIANC ANZ with The UWA Oceans Institute. Big thanks to Chari and all our industry reps.”
