Darwin is Australia’s northernmost capital city, situated in a beautiful harbour setting with pristine coastal beaches and shorelines. The Port of Darwin is a bustling hub of commercial and recreational activity, linking both business and leisure with its maritime environment. With this in mind, PIANC Australia recently took the initiative to host its first YP-Com sundowner in Darwin to bring together the thriving local coastal and maritime community.
The event took place on April 12th at a local watering hole, drawing a good crowd with a diverse profile. Attendees came from a number of engineering consultancies, including Mott MacDonald, Aurecon, GHD and Jacobs. Several other private sector participants came out for the event, including Darwin Port, Paspaley and Dulux. Last but not least, the Northern Territory Government was well represented, including delegates from the Department of Trade, Business & Innovation (DTBI), the Land Development Corporation (LDC), the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR), and the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS).
YP-Com Chair Rodney Hancock had the following to say about the event:
“Darwin is wholeheartedly a maritime town, so it made a lot of sense hosting a PIANC event here. It was a great opportunity for the local maritime community to get together, learn about PIANC and network with one another. There are some enthusiastic Young Professionals here, so I hope we can build some momentum and make Darwin a regular event in our annual YP-Com calendar.“
