Young Shipping Australia (YSA) invites all PIANC members and guests to their Shipping Industry Breakfast Panel, held at Holding Redlich Auditorium on Friday 17 August 2018.

Please join the event to hear their three speakers discuss the what’s what in the current shipping industry, from different perspectives along the logistics chain. It’s an event not to be missed!

Australia Sales Director and Country Manager, Maersk Line Oceania 

My joined Maersk Line’s management trainee program in 2006 and has extensive experience in sales, capacity management and trade and marketing across a number of Maersk Line organisations in her native Sweden and the Asia-Pacific region.

Her prior experience includes a role as owner’s representative in the establishment of Maersk Line’s shipping activities in Myanmar.

She has also held several senior roles within Maersk Line’s New Zealand operation, including key account manager for Kiwi logistics provider, Kotahi, one of the company’s largest global accounts.

Starting on 17 July 2017, My joined the Oceania Cluster leadership team, as the Australia Sales Director and Country Manager.

My holds a master’s degree in business and economics from Uppsala University (Sweden).

Ivan Spanjic

Chief Commercial Officer, SVITZER Australia

Ivan is a senior leader with a diverse portfolio of experience in the maritime sector both in Australia and internationally, holding graduate and post-graduate qualifications in commerce and finance.

Ivan began his career in Australia within the container shipping & logistics sector before joining the Maersk Group of companies. He has held operational and general management roles for Maersk Line then SVITZER in Australia before being appointed Regional Chief Operating Officer of SVITZER’s Middle East & Africa region in 2013.

Ivan returned to Australia mid 2017 in the role of Chief Commercial Officer in ensuring that SVITZER remains and enhances their status as a key partner of the wider port and shipping community.

John Willy

CEO, Hutchison Ports Australia

John commenced his career at sea as a qualified Chief Engineer with the Australian National Line and Swire Shipping. John then progressed ashore as a Marine Superintendent for Cosco and then a senior management position with Adsteam Marine. During his time with Adsteam Marine, John was directly involved in a number of major salvage operations in waters off PNG and New Zealand. John has also been the National Operations Manager for OOCL looking after operations in Australia and New Zealand.

More recently John joined Hutchison Ports, as the inaugural General Manager of Commercial for the Australian terminals in Brisbane and Sydney, and was personally responsible for securing the first shipping line contracts for stevedoring services at the two terminals in 2013. In 2016 he assumed responsibility for Operations as well and in late 2017 also became Acting CEO. John was appointed CEO of Hutchison Ports in Australia in January this year.

John has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and post graduate qualifications in Business and Education. He is an officer in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve and has served on active service in the Middle East on Counter Piracy Operations back in 2010-11.
