Brief Project Description:
Rio Tinto’s Chith Export Facility, part of the Amrun project in Far North Queensland, comprises a 650-metre access jetty and 350-metre wharf. The innovative facility design turned the traditional stick-built construction approach on its head, instead delivering a modular design that resulted in significant cost and schedule savings to the client.
This presentation provides an overview of the design and construction of this innovative new port infrastructure and the numerous benefits it delivered.
About The Presenter:
Grant Stock, Senior Maritime Engineer, Jacobs
Grant has over eleven years’ experience in the design and documentation of a variety of maritime and structural engineering projects; including wharves, jetties, dolphins, tug facilities, ferry terminals and bridges. Since 2009 he has been involved in numerous stages of the Amrun Project study, from the pre-feasibility study right through detailed design and commissioning.
Grant has also recently finished a secondment with Rio Tinto as a Marine Operations Advisor through the port commissioning stages. He has a wealth of experience in the design and operations of marine infrastructure, and has established a strong reputation in the maritime field.
On Tuesday 3rd September 2019, the QLD PIANC Chapter facilitated its first technical presentation of the year. The presentation was hosted by North Queensland Bulk Ports in the Brisbane office and was followed by a brief social networking event. The presentation was delivered by Grant Stock, Senior Maritime Engineer, Jacobs (image above, left) who provided an extremely informative overview of the modular wharf design and construction practise implemented for Rio Tinto’s Amrun Chith Project. The presentation was well received by the 35+ local PIANC members in attendance.
Our thanks to PIANC regional chapter members, in particular James Donald of NQBP, (image above, right)for coordinating and organising this event.
