DESCRIPTION:Port of Mackay Infrastructure Developments: Wharf 1 \, Tug Berth\, and Wharf 5.\nA joint EA and PIANC ANZ Northern Chapter FREE Event.\nThe Port of Mackay operates 24 hours a day\, seven days a week and extends over 800 hectares of land and water under the direct control of North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP). The Mackay region is the largest sugar producing area in Australia\, and the port hosts one of the world’s largest bulk sugar terminals. DESCRIPTION:Developments in Offshore Wind: Perspectives from the construction and research fields. \nPIANC WA hosts Technical talk with networking drinks for all or online – for members only. \nJoin us on Tuesday 22 March for a technical session discussing developments in offshore wind – online (for PIANC members only) and in person (members and non members welcome) in Perth. \nFollowing the talk we will provide drinks for continued networking within the private function area at The Shoe. \nThanks to our sponsor Boskalis this event is FREE for all to attend in person(members and non-members). \nRegister HERE \nPIANC members can also access the session online from 4.15pm – RSVP to be provided an online access link. \nAbout Our Speakers:  \nMike Spiers – Boskalis  \nMike has been with Boskalis – including SMIT – for approximately 15 years and is currently the Area Manager for the Boskalis Offshore Heavy Lifting business unit. Prior to this he was managing the Boskalis Subsea Services business in the Asia Pacific region offering air & saturation diving services to the Oil & Gas industry. Mike is a registered Professional Engineer who started his career on a missile carrier in the South African Navy and later became a commercial diver. \nJana Orszaghova – University of Western Australia  \nJana works as a Research Fellow at UWA focusing on marine renewable energy. She is passionate about the development of sustainable ocean technologies\, and is applying her mathematical and numerical skills to solve challenging and practically important problems in the field of hydrodynamics. She is a Deputy Program Leader of the Offshore Renewable Energy Systems in the Blue Economy CRC. Jana has a PhD in coastal and ocean engineering from the University of Oxford\, UK. \nAbout Our Topic:  \nJana will discuss current research into developments and challenges in floating offshore wind farms. Maintaining stability against capsizing\, when subjected to wind\, wave and current forces\, is a key design requirement for the floaters. In this talk she will discuss hydrodynamic fundamentals of these floating structures\, provide an overview of the developments so far and illustrate how our research is contributing towards progress of the industry. \nMike Spiers will expand the discussion to offshore wind developments across floating\, fixed\, offshore substation and subsea-cable installations.
